"This illustration was created for a poster with a “leisure” theme. Every element was hand drawn with Indian ink, then scanned, with hand painted watercolor textures added. It’s a kind of collage of handmade textures actually.  Over time I have developed my style so that it could work in a complete digital way. I think it’s interesting that you can still see a bit of this old style in my new style."

Dutch illustrator Bodil Jane works from a small mezzanine studio in Amsterdam-West where she creates detailed and often female-focused illustrations. Her ornamental style is inspired by a love of collecting, regularly visiting busy environments such as flea markets and botanical gardens for inspiration. She’s honed a handmade, homely, and warm aesthetic in a part analogue, part digital style. Her work is almost as if Frida Kahlo had lived in a world painted by Raoul Dufy, but Henri Matisse was on hand to help with the plants.
